Skilled Pet Surgeons
Specializing in Advanced Veterinary Technology

veterinary surgery

With our highly trained staff of skilled veterinarians, experienced vet techs, and well-maintained, modern equipment, you and your pet can rely on East Side Animal Hospital for successful veterinary diagnosis, treatment, and surgical expertise in the convenience of your hometown in Evansville, Indiana and surrounding areas. We routinely perform common soft tissue and orthopedic (encompassing bones, joints, ligaments, muscles, tendons, and nerves) surgical procedures such as basic fractures, knee repairs for ACL tears, declaws, and tumor or mass removals for both dogs and cats. Spays and neuters are available to dogs and cats, as well as other small mammals like rabbits or ferrets. If the procedure proves to be extremely intensive, as with a pelvic shatter, for example, we may refer you to an appropriate specialized veterinary surgeon.

Benefits of Veterinary Laser Surgery

Advanced technology now allows us to utilize a laser during veterinary surgery as a better alternative to the more invasive, original scalpel. The benefits are endless, including:

  • Smaller, cleaner incision
  • More sterilization resulting in minimal risk of infection
  • Less bleeding (especially important in small mammals, exotics, and birds)
  • Less pain
  • Reduced swelling
  • Faster recovery

What to Expect: Before, During, and After Pet Surgery

  • Pre-anesthetic blood work to minimize surgical risk and verify that your pet is healthy and able to undergo anesthesia and surgery with minimal complications
  • Physical exam to ensure health as well as to customize anesthesia, fluids, and pain medications prior to procedure
  • Devoted bedside monitoring before, during, and after surgery
  • Post-op placement in a cushioned, heated recovery cage that helps prevent anesthetic hypothermia (also known as low body temperature) and guarantees as much comfort as possible
  • Use of IV catheterization and fluids on all surgery patients to minimize risks; this is especially important with senior pets

If your pet requires overnight, post-op attention, we will carefully transport your friend to our sister veterinary hospital, All Pet Emergency Clinic, for observation and care during nonbusiness hours, then bring your pet back to our facility upon opening. Please also contact All Pet Emergency Clinic in the case of an emergency.

“Our dog, Henry, recently had surgery at East Side Animal Hospital. The surgery was completely successful. The staff cared for Henry as if he were their own dog. They worked with us to address the financial cost, patiently answered all of our questions about the surgery, and took excellent care of Henry. Three months past surgery, Henry still wags his tail every time we stop in at East Side Animal Hospital’s office. Dr. Thompson and his staff have done and continue to do a great job caring for Henry’s health needs. From their expertise to the genuine concern for your pet, along with their AAHA rating, East Side is a wonderful place to take your pet.”
